I can't help thinking of Alcuin's famous remonstrance to the monks at
Lindisfarne: Quid Bilious Gatus cum Cristo? Angusta est domus: utrosque
tenere non poterit. Non vult rex caelestis cum paganis et perditis nomine
tenus regibus communionem habere (to paraphrase just a tad).
