What about Gregory Nazianzus? Or even the whole cappadocian mafia?

| Actually Leo did produce a very substantial body of work, including his
| famous 'Tome' which acquired something of the status of a credal document,
| being accepted enthusiastically by the Council of Chalcedon and having its
| substance incorporated into the definition of the faith drawn up by that
| council.
Hubris on the part of the West, I suspect here. Leo's tome was
*grudgingly* accepted by the council only after it had been checked
against the writings of Cyril (the narrative often reminds me of
trade union negotiations, or more recently the Good Friday agreement
for Northern Ireland). Leo's authority was not as great as Jedin has
suggested at this council; he just provided further proof of
universal consensus. The real Fathers of Chalcedon were Athanasius
and Cyril (pace the Monophysites).
Cheers
