>Melito, bishop of Sardis (c. 180) - His name occurs in some of the old
>martyrologia, he was unmarried, but beyond that nothing is known of his
>life or death.
>I believe Melito is traditionally supposed to have been the first Christian
>pilgrim to the Holy Land. I seem to recall reading this in E.D. Hunt, Holy
>Land Pilgrimage in the Early Church, but I don't have it to hand to check.
Gilles Quispel also mentions Melito in his _Secret Book of Revelation_,
citing a hymn of his that refers to God (probably the Holy Spirit) as Mother,
though he gives no source. Quispel also refers to a Paschal Homily of his,
and also notes that he celebrated Easter on the 14th of Nisan.
