Dear Eric,
Your text might be of the type of the _Floretum_ and _Rosarium theologiae_,
on which there is an article by Anne Hudson in the _Journal of Theological
Studies_, 1974, see also Christina von Nolcken, _The Middle English
Translation of the "Rosarium Theologie"_, Heidelberg: Winter, 1979 (=
Middle English Texts, 10), and for another tradition of exempla organized
alphabetically Mary MacLeod Banks, _E/tienne de Besanc,on. An alphabet of
tales. An English 15th century translation of the Alphabetum narrationum,
from add. ms. 25,719 of the British Museum_, London: Tru"bner, 1904-1905.
But I have no specific reference for your manuscript. Maybe you could try
BREMOND ET AL.
Claude Bremond / Jacques Le Goff / Jean-Claude Schmitt,
L'Exemplum. Turnhout: Brepols, 1982 (= Typologie des sour-
ces du moyen a^ge occidental, 40)
Also you might check the indexes of manuscripts in the publications of
Richard H. Rouse and Mary A. Rouse (_Preachers, Florilegia, and Sermons_,
Toronto 1979; _Authentic Witnesses_, Notre Dame 1991). And I recall to
have seen a very informative and up to date introduction, with good
bibliography, in the reprint of Lars Wahlin's edition _Matthias
Lincopiensis (Magister Matthias), Copia exemplorum_, Uppsala 1990 (= Studia
Seminarii Latini Upsaliensis, 2). Yet if everything fails, you can still go
directly to the top and ask Siegfried Wenzel
([log in to unmask]) and Peter Binkley
([log in to unmask]), who know practically everything about manuals of
this kind.
