Today, 24 March, is the feast of ...
* Gabriel the Archangel
- patron of postal, telegraph and telephone workers, of
telecommunications, and of the medieval-religion list
* Irenaeus, martyr (304)
- bishop of Sirmium (present-day Mitrovica), capital of
Pannonia, he suffered many tortures before being killed
during the persecution of Diocletion
* Aldemar, abbot (c. 1080)
- educated at Monte Cassino, he escaped a feud over him
between that place and princess Aloara of Capua, and fled
to Bocchignano in Abruzzo, where he founded a monastery;
while there, bees made a hive in his cupboard, and he would
not allow them to be disturbed
* Catherine of Vadstena, virgin (1381)
- daughter of St Birgitta of Sweden, she effectively left
her husband in order to follow her mother's wishes
* Simon of Trent and William of Norwich (1475 and 1144)
- examples of child saints supposedly killed by Jews for
nefarious purposes: Simon (age two-and-a-half years)
kidnapped and by a doctor, William (age twelve years) also
kidnapped, both of them crucified in celebration of the
Jewish pasch
