That may be true for 1-bit integers, but is it true generally?
For two 2-bit nmbers, the product requires 4 bits (11b x 11b = 1001b, i.e., 3 x 3 = 9)
For two 3-bit numbers, the product requires 6 bits (111b x 111b = 110001b, i.e. 7 x 7 = 49)
