You come across the following results from an 83 year old patient seen the
previous evening in the Accident & Emergency Department:
Sodium: 138 mmol/L
Potassium: 4.6 mmol/L
Urea: 17.1 mmol/L (2.8 - 7.0)
Creatinine: 185 umol/L (62 - 133)
Glucose: 5.2 mmol/L
AST: 2476 IU/L ( <41)
CK: 112 IU/L ( <170)
Clinical information is 'shortness of breath, chest pain, atrial
fibrillation'.
A month earlier, when this patient was seen in Dermatology Outpatients, his
liver function test results were normal.
