Many moons ago, our Consultant Paediatricians defined hypoglycaemia
as:
blood glucose < 2.2 mmol/L in a term babe
blood glucose < 1.1 mmol/L in a premature babe
Rather arbitrary, I agree.
They now define hypoglycaemia as:
blood glucose < 2.2 mmol/L in all babes
or plasma glucose < 2.5 mmol/L (2.5 - 3.0 being the "grey area")
