>Does anyone know the clinical relevance (if any) of osteocalcin
>measurements in children
Markedly age and pubertal stage dependent and cannot be interpreted without
sex/age/pubertal stage specific ranges for the particular assay.
Substantial difference between assays both in terms of calibration and
individual
results. May be useful to predict pubertal growth based on some research
studies,
but not clear whether this is independent of other factors (previous
growth, and evident
clinical factors, and other more accessible measurements such as total
alkaline phosphatase).
Also possibly useful to monitor response to GH therapy, investigate
patients with possible
transient hyperphosphatasemia (may be normal for age), and various other
things.
