Thanks to Philip Hyde for suggesting this rather different case.
You are 'phoned by a Practice Nurse. She has recently received the
following results from your Department on a 73 year old man:
Total cholesterol: 5.0 mmol/L
HDL-cholesterol: 5% of total
Triglycerides: 1.05 mmol/L
The patient is on warfarin, and was recently admitted to hospital with an
INR of 14 (reference range 2 - 4.5).
A year ago, the patient's total cholesterol was 7.7 mmol/L; HDL-cholesterol
14% of total; triglycerides 1.48 mmol/L.
The Nurse asks if warfarin can affect blood cholesterol, because the
patient is not on statins or any particular dietary therapy.
Comment (maximum two lines if possible) and/or other action directly to me
please ([log in to unmask]); not to the mailbase.
Best wishes
Gordon Challand
