****APOLOGIES FOR CROSS POSTINGS****
FROM TEACHING TO LEARNING IN LIBRARY AND INFORMATION
SERVICES - EDULIB PLANS 'PHASE FOUR'
The EduLib Project Team is pleased to announce that through the use of unspent
funding the project will be able to continue to work to support LIS teaching and
learning developments for a further year, to August 1999. The emphasis for our
activities during this year will be to continue to consolidate and disseminate
teaching expertise within the HE library community.
During the past two years EduLib has provided some thirteen regionally based
programmes in different configurations of specially designed and piloted educational
development workshops. Over 250 library and information services staff have attended
our workshops and they have represented over half the higher education universities
and colleges in the United Kingdom, including most of the larger institutions.
Post-session evaluations have demonstrated a very high level of satisfaction with our
programmes.
Many of the librarians and LIS staff who have attended our programmes are already
applying their new knowledge and skills and using the draft EduLib training materials
to disseminate their educational expertise among colleagues. Typically, offering
their own workshops based upon the EduLib model.
The other substantial product of the EduLib Project is the publication of the EduLib
Teaching Materials. After extensive use and evaluation these materials have been
revised and a complete set will be made available for every higher education
institution in the United Kingdom. Additional copies may be purchased and
information will be available in July.
The EduLib Phase Four will include a range of workshops and other support activities
designed to:
- build upon the educational training already offered to librarians who have
attended our workshops so as to enhance their capability to disseminate EduLib among
their colleagues;
- to provide an advisory service and support for librarians who are using the
EduLib materials locally;
- to offer short courses based upon key elements of the full EduLib programme
for those librarians who have not been able to attend the EduLib programme, possibly
because of the time involved;
- where possible and if resources are available offer short ‘tailor-made’
courses for individual institutions.
We are currently planning our schedule of activities for the Fourth Phase and more
detailed information will be publicised in late August or early September. As part
of the planning process, the EduLib team would like to invite suggestions and advice
which may enable us to ensure that our programme addresses the educational
development requirements of the library community. If you would like to provide us
with feedback please do so by Friday 10th July 1998.
