One word of advise in commenting on papers that use "vague language": be
careful who your audience is before you rely on assumptions. State them
first, then argue. Avoid personal attacks and attack the issue not the
person.

John,
Answer me this. If I started making stupid off hand and perhaps even
somewhat insulting comments about forestry as a field of study would
you just sit there? I don't think so. The article was intended to
impugn the economics as a field of study. Also, I did not attak her,
but her ideas. I thought her ideas were stupid inaccurate, and even
contradictory. She maybe quite knowledgible in her area of expertise
(god I hope it isn't economics because if it is I am sure her former
professors are embarassed at her glaring errors).
As for should people always want more? No probably not. The question
is can you change this aspect of human behavior? Can you get people
to see beyond their own limited world and do what may not be in their
best interest, but what is in the best interest of the world? I am
not sure this kind of perspective is possible in humans. Given this
belief, we then need to look for ways to curb the negative impacts of
such behavior. I believe economics can be a usefull tool in analysing
these problems and providing some possible solutions.
