I like what you have written here below. I am always surrounded by people
who say stupid things about forestry. But I would not put up with comments
that I was a stupid forester. I am only above average stupid! I especially
like the last paragraph below. This is very insightful. I think that when
you said that economics can provide some solutions I agree very much. In
fact in my studies now I am taking a course in environmental accounting and
reporting. There are various ways to help nature help humanity. One is to
carry out 'life cycle analysis', full cost accounting, acitivity based
accounting, etc., so that firms can evaluate contingent and less
quantifiable costs associated with pollution, and therefore economics can
prevent pollution, but as we know there is no absolute reason to do any more
than the regs reguire, but that is a pretty foolish way of looking at the
future if you want to beat the competition.
