One of the tutors on the Society of Archivists' Diploma in Archive
Administration intends to move on to other things and I need a replacement.
The purpose of this email is to seek expressions of interest.
To start with the some background information. The Society's Diploma is a
distance learning option to obtain a professional qualification. It is open
to graduates who are already working in archives or records management. To
be awarded a Diploma students must complete approximately 36 assignments and
an extended project or dissertation and sit three exams. Details of the
subjects covered in the coursework are given on the Society of Archivists'
website so I am not repeating them here.
Within the Archives Administration module is a unit on searcher services.
The assignment for the unit involves comparing searcher services in two
(named) records offices. The tutor is responsible for marking the
assignments, using a marking scheme and, of course, drawing on his/her own
knowledge.
The assignment is not compulsory but quite a few students choose it. There
are about 50 students on the course at any given time (usually about 12-15
start each year) to give you an idea of the numbers involved. Tutors are
helped by the fact that students complete the course in whatever order they
choose so assignments come in dribs and drabs.
Tutors are paid a fee per assignment for marking. As an additional
inducement I suggest that it is an unparallelled opportunity to learn a lot
about repositories all round the country!
If anyone is interested in becoming a tutor for this unit please get in
touch with me, preferably by email. My address is: [log in to unmask]
If you would like to discuss it with the present tutor I will give you his
telephone number.
