Subject: Kazoo Congress 98
PLEASE CROSS-POST
My many thanks to the many individuals who answered e-mail
and earlier appeals to chair the some 80 additional sessions and more that
derived from the September 15 deadline for paper proposals. In fact, we
had many more offers to step into the breach than we could accept. We did
our best to match interests, and very few people have to play "out of
position." To those of you offered, but were not placed, thanks are just
as warm. We are committed to the smaller, specialized fields, as well as
to the biggies, but the Institute itself does not have--and indeed what
place does--the wide range that an international community of medievalists
can show.
We are now trying to put the program together, and resolving many
potential time conflicts will occupy our waking hours. Our former guess
that we will have over 500 sessions will come true.
Let me note here that the Radisson Plaza will continue as our
off-campus Congress hotel of choice. With so large a company coming, the
prudent medievalist may want to consider options now. The Radisson rate
will be $77 a night, a good third and better off from the published rate.
Mention the Congress when you book at 616-343-3333; FAX = 616-381-1560.
The Kalamazoo Radisson now has a web-page, which will introduce you to its
amenities:

We hope to link to this two-day old site on our own webpage tomorrow when
I tackle one of our high-flying websters.
More to come.
