Regarding seating in churches: Margaret Aston has an article called
"Segregation in Church," in W. J. Sheils and D. Wood, eds., *Women in the
Church*, Studies in Church History 27 (1990), in which she discusses seating
arrangements in 15th-century English churches. And although I've lent my
copy out to a student, I'm fairly sure that Kit French discusses seating in
her thesis on late medieval English parishes--Kit, are you out there?

Can anyone direct me to any literature on seating in
medieval churches and oratories? I'm interested in stalls,
benches, pews, whatever
