Others have handled the Mary question -- on dates, yes, the St. Gall trope is
usually dated at 950; the comparable trope from St. Martial at Limoges was
dated earlier, c. 923-4 by Karl Young, but more recent work (W. Smoldon,
I think) dates it to c.950, tying it with St. Gall for earliest surviving
on the record.
