St Thomas says (I saw in a footnote only last week...) that Abraham, or at
least his successors, were saved by the faith of which circumcision was
the sign. (I think he would have added that, in time, this did not take
effect until Christ's sacrifice was completed.) Maybe a Thomist can
assist?
