Hi all,
I've knocked up an initial alpha release of a Perl module to handle the
reading and writing of MARC records. For those who don't know, MARC is
the MAchine Readable Catalog format used by library systems the world
over. There are lots of variations in the basic MARC format such as
USMARC, UKMARC, vendor specific MARCs, etc. This module currently only
deals with BLCMP MARC (the only version of MARC I had a manual for) but
I hope to soon have it doing USMARC and UKMARC as well.
The alpha release is available at
<URL:ftp://ftp.roads.lut.ac.uk/pub/ROADS/contrib/Marc-0.01.tar.gz>. I'd
appreciate any feedback from people on the API in this alpha release and
the proposed future plans for the module. Eventually I'd like this to
go into CPAN; I can foresee other Metadata::xxxx modules appearing as
well as there's a number of groups working on different formats.
Tatty bye,
Jim'll
