Dear Medieval Religionists,
I realize that there are few archaeologists among you, but since I
am one of that kind, I am hoping a few others may exist. The
following notice is for a proposed session of possible interest to
archaeologists, medieval (or general historical) archaeologists
included. I encourage you to consider the possibilities.
Please feel free--and I, furthermore, encourage you--to pass this
notice on to any bulletin board, department, or archaeologist you
think may be interested.
Thank you.

The Archaeology of Religion
Proposed Session for 1997 American Anthropological Assn. meeting in
Washington, DC
November 19-23
An increasing number of archaeologists are rediscovering the
potential of remains from the past for illuminating religious and
cosmologic beliefs. I am looking for archaeologists interested in
proposing a paper topic for a session stressing archaeological
approaches to the interpretation of ritual/religion in any context.
It is intended that this session appear in connection with two
other anthropology of religion sessions covering biological and
general cognitive topics. In this way, the full range of discussion
for the anthropology of religion will be opened up.
