My colleague Ron Waldron (King's College London), e-mail
[log in to unmask], is seeking assistance with a query relating to
late fourteenth-century manuscripts of St Anselm. Any responses,
either to me or direct to him would be most gratefully received.
The problem is as follows:
Wanted: Information on manuscripts of St Anselm's `De Concordia
Praescientiae et Praedestinationis et Gratiae Dei cum Libero
Arbitrio'. I am hopeful of identifying the hand of a particular
scribe in a copy of this work and would be interested in locating
any manuscript that may have been written in the late fourteenth
century, especially in England. The standard edition of Anselm's
works, by F.S.Schmitt (Vol. 2, p.244), mentions only twelfth- and
thirteenth-century manuscripts. There are several copies of the
text in the British Library but none of the right period (or in
the handwriting sought).
Many thanks in advance.
