Gary noted that the FEAST listing for 10 September, dealing with Nicholas
of Tolentino, said that the saint ...
> '...would distribute bread as a cure for illness...': George, bread which
> he had blessed?
Respondeo: yup. A great tradition grew among the Augustinian canons
following the example set by Nicholas; for wonderful primary source
material, check out the *Acta Sanctorum*, Sept. iii, p. 730-736. For
Nicholas's own custom of blessing bread before using it to cure people,
see the vision that started him off; it concludes (*ibid*., p.650B):
Evigilans igitur Vir sanctus, suum excitat servitorem, visionemque tacens,
ad ostensum sibi locum ipsum pro pane in nomine Jesu Christi petendo
transmisit.
This is followed by an account of a miracle effected by our hero in this
way.
(The *vita*, by the way, is by Petrus de Monte Rubiano.)
