CALL FOR PAPERS
===============
Abstracts are solicited for papers on aspects of Eleanor of Aquitaine's
life and reception for two sessions at the 1997 International Congress on
Medieval Studies at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Michigan.
While a maximum of 8 papers can be presented during the sessions, all
abstracts submitted will be considered as potential contributions to a
new anthology on Eleanor which will, it is hoped, explore previously
unexamined areas of her life and influence, or apply new methodologies to
re-interrogate areas that have been debated in the past. The collected
essays will appear in the series "The New Middle ages" (Garland
Publishing; series editor Bonnie Wheeler of Southern Methodist
University). The volume will be co-edited by John Carmi Parsons and
Bonnie Wheeler.
Papers are solicited across a wide range of disciplines: considerations
of Eleanor's (or relevant contemporary noblewomen's) relations with the
institutional Church, personal piety, artistic and literary evidence,
iconography, political or institutional history in either narrative or
documentary sources, the crusades. Papers addressing questions of gender
are especially welcome.
Respond by 15 September 1996 to: John Carmi Parsons, Department of
History, University of Toronto, 100 St George Street Rm 2074, Toronto M5S
3G3; fax (416) 978-4810, or to the above email address.
