Interdisciplinary Medieval Studies: Treasure
Kalamazoo 1997
The Centre for Medieval Studies at the University of York is organizing a
session at the 1997 International Congress on Medieval Studies at Western
Michigan University (Kalamazoo) entitled 'Interdisciplinary Medieval
Studies: Treasure'. The session is being held in conjunction with the
York Medieval Seminars which are a year long series of lectures held
annually at the Centre on a topic of interest to medievalists working in
a range of disciplines. 'Treasure' is, of course, a broad subject which
can be understood in any number of ways from the monetary to the
metaphorical and explored from a range of disciplines. The session at
Kalamazoo, which aims to include a historian, an art historian or
archeologist and a literary critic/historian, will focus specifically on
the early Middle Ages in Western Europe. In addition to addressing an
aspect of treasure in the early Middle Ages, we hope that the Kalamazoo
session will also contribute to discussion about the potential,
limitations and nature of interdisciplinary work.
Abstracts of not more than 500 words should reach me by 15 September;
please state clearly what sort of A-V or computer equipment you will need.
The conference dates are 7-11 May.
