Kent,
A belated welcome! I've been off-line for awhile. I read and
appreciated your master's thesis, and I'm pleased to hear you are still
working in the same area. Our research overlaps very closely. I'm
nearing the end of a dissertation on the conjunction between war and
sainthood in Anglo-Saxon literature: "Soldier Saints and Holy
Warrriors: Warfare and Sanctity in Anglo-Saxon Literature." My
perspective is literary, considering the hagiographic traditions
surrounding soldier saints in Anglo-Saxon culture, but like you I am
interested in the connections between the "rise of the crusading ideal"
and early English history. I'll send a longer note off-list shortly, as
we undoubtedly have a great deal to discuss and I'm not sure how many
others on the list are interested in the corner of medieval religion
we're studying.
Once again, welcome!
