Hello
I'm Michael Wright, and I teach in the English Dept here. My
relevant interests are Julian of Norwich and Margery Kempe,
on whom I work (teaching and research) in a manner appropriate
(I hope) to lit. study in a secular context. This may surprise
some people, but NZ (or Auckland, at least) is the most
radically secular society I've known.
This year I've got an MA paper going of an exploratory kind (?
euphemism for inadequately planned). I'm putting before
students Piers Plowman and the medieval drama, and some English
mystics (Julian, obviously, and some Rolle). The point will be
not so much how mysticism illuminates Piers and drama, as to
test the validity of the obvious dichotomy between socially and
individually focused spiritualities.
Best wishes
Michael
