Based in the School of Design’s vibrant research community you will develop and evaluate co-design workshop methods; and coordinating with researchers in interactive data retrieval at the University of Strathclyde, help develop interaction designs to inform the design of a prototype tool. The tool’s designed interfaces and associated visualisations will re-present an individual’s mined personal data with the aim of visually demonstrating the cumulative nature of disclosure and make personal and employer risks more explicit. Workshops with different stakeholder groups will develop insights into how visual representations of personal data are interpreted and acted upon, to inform on how to feed back to that individual, and when and how to take effective action.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Develop workshop methods and UX and UI designs and visualisations to support understanding and choices about the nature, value, management and transmission of personal data, as appropriate for different stakeholder groups.
2. Coordinate with research and stakeholder partners at Strathclyde and Edinburgh universities and in London to support the delivery of all aspects of the research project.
3. Conduct a range of data collection activities, including recruiting for and organising, designing, running and evaluating design workshops with different stakeholder groups, focusing on problem scoping around the understandings of personal data generation and their potential compromise.
4. Transcribe and code workshop data.
5. Contribute to literature reviews.
6. Coordinate impact related stakeholder events and support activities and communications with the project Advisory Board and wider research team.
7. Support impact pathways through engagement and networking with relevant stakeholders.
8. Maintain accurate, secure, detailed and up-to-date records for all work carried out as part of the research project, including working with established work plans.
9. Provide input into the research project’s dissemination including leading on co-authored journal article(s), conference presentation(s) and other forms of output.
10. Comply with University policies, including financial regulations, equal opportunities policy, Health & Safety policy, promoting race equality policy, information systems security policy, data security, intellectual property rights and safeguarding policies.
11. Engage in personal, professional and career development, to enhance both specialist and transferable skills in accordance with desired career trajectory.
12. Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade of the post, as requested by the project.
