Hi,
In our institution, I was very excited when we got third party software that allowed us to getting the six-sigma QC and patient moving averages with few mouse clicks, but was desperate to get colleagues and admin to buy in.
It did not take much time for Lab admin to find the expense not worth it on their budget and to simply cut it off. To date it is still a challenge "selling" the idea / value of advanced QC management tools.
If someone has succeeded to get solid and enduring buy-in from lab/hospital administrators, please share your strategic approach, ideas and hint to overcome systemic resistance.
Thanks

I started exploring six sigma as a data visualisation exercise for our laboratory senior management team. I wanted to see if there was a better way of summarising EQA & IQC data hence make better use of our lab data and at the same time develop some ideas on biological variation.
Data capture & transfer were the rate limiting steps.

Christopher,
Hi, Kevin Jones here form CSols. We have created a AQC data management tool that provides a range of features to labs including data capture, data management, charting, exception management and reporting to meet ISO guidelines. However I wandered what benefits you hoped to accrue from supporting the six sigma concept?
Regards
Kevin

We've looked at six-sigma. At the moment, we're held back by IT (manual data collection of QC data) but we started to model EQA & IQC data.
I don't think many UK/European labs use 6-sigma whereas the US and perhaps middle east do so a bit more.

Dear all,
We are considering using the sigma metrics and Westgard sigma rules in Biochemistry.
I was wondering if anyone has applied sigma metrics in their laboratory and would be willing to share their experience.
Thanks,
Elodie
