Systematic review online course/training

Dear Majid

In addition to Miranda's suggestion for Cochrane Interactive Learning (which I recommend), there's another Cochrane resource that may appeal to colleagues with an overall interest in evidence-based health - Evidence Essentials. It introduces topics from a consumer perspective so provides both an introduction and vital perspective.
https://training.cochrane.org/essentials

Free to access, but users have to register for a free Cochrane account. Completion of the course also earns a few points toward being eligible for CIL discounts.

You may also wish to note that a maintained repository of tools for systematic reviews is available. This might be useful for people planning next steps after the training.
http://systematicreviewtools.com/

Lastly, my research group have developed a text book on 'Doing a systematic review'. It is intended for Masters students and is written in an accessible style. Not an online course, but its companion site has free online resources and video FAQ which could be helpful when planning next steps and getting started with a review.
https://study.sagepub.com/doingasystematicreview2e

Preview chapters are available on the publishers site for the book (the link below is for the UK, site users from other regions may have to use a different URL):
https://uk.sagepub.com/en-gb/eur/doing-a-systematic-review/book251308#preview

Hi Majid,

Cochrane has an online course called 'Cochrane Interactive Learning:
Conducting and Intervention Review', that covers systematic reviews from question development to interpretation and write-up, see https://training.cochrane.org/interactivelearning.

The first module is free, so you can try it out, but there is a fee for the remainder of the course - although some Cochrane contributors and residents of HINARI A and B countries can access the full course free, see https://training.cochrane.org/interactivelearning/help. (Full disclosure: I helped develop the course in my former role as Head of Learning at Cochrane).

all the best,

Miranda Cumpston

OFFICIAL

~~~Apologies for cross-posting~~~
Please join us for our third webinar - 8th August 2019 - 2-3pm London time: Librarians are essential: Advocating for a seat at the table
Our third IFLA Evidence for Global and Disaster Health SIG webinar will highlight practical examples from across the globe of what library and information specialists are doing in the areas of advocacy, and how these examples can be modelled for advocacy of libraries' roles in disaster situations.
More information and registration details here: https://www.ifla.org/node/92335 - please check your timezone.
The session will be chaired by Blessing Mawire, and there will be two presenters:
Siobhan Champ-Blackwell works in the National Library of Medicine Public Services Division, and will be presenting ways librarians can advocate for themselves by initiating and developing relationships with relevant local, state, and federal officials and agencies, as well as with emergency responders.
Dr. Lenny Rhine, coordinator of the 'E-Library Training Initiative', a  Librarians Without Borders® / Medical Library Association project, funded by the Elsevier Foundation (EF), will be presenting on his experience with the Research4Life Advocacy Toolkit and its application in different scenarios.
We hope you can join us on the 8th August 2019 - 2-3pm London time.
With best wishes, from,
The Cochrane Interactive learning is excellent. Gives you a very good
overview of how to conduct a meta-analysis. Also loved how it was so
interactive and user friendly.
I do think you would need more help when it comes to the search strategies,
statistical part, like extracting data,coding, and analysis. I think they
have some videos on using the Revman on youtube. Do you happen to know
Miranda?
Michael Borenstein has a hands-on course on conducting a meta analysis. A
bit expensive and they use their own software for analysis.
In addition to the Cochrane Training modules Miranda recommended, I would
also recommend a free Coursera course by John Hopkins University which is
taught by Tianjing Li and Kay Dickersin from Cochrane USA:
Lots and lots and lots of videos on YouTube on how to use RevMan. I began by just reading the manual years ago (to a much earlier version of RevMan than the one currently available for download). It's pretty simple and straightforward. Michael's also has some more advanced videos and a course, but as mentioned he uses Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) not RevMan as he co-developed CMA. He also has a great reference (Introduction to Meta-Analysis) that is great to have. I often refer to it when discussing complex data sets.
As for setting up search strategies, it is a good idea to work with someone experienced like a search strategist. Each database has its unique quirks and you need understand how the coding works and how subtly changes to it can drastically change the output from the database.
At the end of the day, there's nothing like doing a review under supervision to gain the most. An experienced supervisor will be able to spot issues and pitfalls a novice may not even know are there (until someone points them out).
Subject: RE: Systematic review online course/training
Hi Majid,
Cochrane has an online course called 'Cochrane Interactive Learning: Conducting and Intervention Review', that covers systematic reviews from question development to interpretation and write-up, see https://training.cochrane.org/interactivelearning<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Ftraining.cochrane.org%2Finteractivelearning&data=02%7C01%7C%7Cfbe4d249cd0a4e4b679208d713bbc105%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C636999569421530894&sdata=cSTbGNekVFz%2F2mdmYOvroilCHO6tn9M6JVxJetdwnMg%3D&reserved=0>.
The first module is free, so you can try it out, but there is a fee for the remainder of the course - although some Cochrane contributors and residents of HINARI A and B countries can access the full course free, see https://training.cochrane.org/interactivelearning/help<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Ftraining.cochrane.org%2Finteractivelearning%2Fhelp&data=02%7C01%7C%7Cfbe4d249cd0a4e4b679208d713bbc105%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C636999569421540905&sdata=k%2BRltUqdO8VCpx5KgkUnLr%2B%2FGOQeBsRHxO6%2FQuyEzMQ%3D&reserved=0>. (Full disclosure: I helped develop the course in my former role as Head of Learning at Cochrane).
all the best,
Miranda Cumpston
Can anybody please suggest a good online course/training program about how to conduct systematic reviews?
Majid.
