medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
apologies for cross-posting
I have just posted to my online archive photos of four objects (with
many details), three C12 and one Carolingian.
The Eleanor Vase will be known to many of you, a work made for Abbot
Suger of Saint-Denis that incorporates a gift from Eleanor of Aquitaine
and Louis VII.

The Lisbjerg Altar in Copenhagen is the earliest of the Danish golden
altar frontals (gilded copper), with elaborate repoussé reliefs.

The very large chalice in Novgorod, from Byzantine Rus, is roughly
contemporary with those objects, and has Church Slavonic inscriptions
including an artist's signature as well as repoussé relief.

The Carolingian paten in the Louvre incorporates a Roman serpentine
plate, with inlaid gold fish perhaps from C4/5, within a border
attributed to the Court School of Charles the Bald.

It takes me a fair amount of time to integrate new images into my
archive even after I have them fully processed and captioned. I have
several other new pages ready to index (during breaks between working on
Kalamazoo and Leeds papers), but would like your input. Any preferences
for which of the works below get put online first? You are all, as
always, welcome to use photo archive material for your own conference
presentations.
