About this job:
An opportunity has arisen to join a small group of statisticians located at Jealott's Hill International Research Centre, providing high level statistical support to a diverse range of projects across our Crop Protection, Biotech and Seeds businesses.
The main accountabilities of the role are:
To provide specialist advice on experimental design
To decide upon and conduct appropriate statistical analysis of key datasets arising from lab, greenhouse and field studies
To report findings to scientists and project teams and contribute to subsequent decisions
To provide formal and informal training to non-statistician colleagues on relevant statistical issues
The projects you will be working on span a wide range of scientific disciplines and, as a consequence, the nature of the work is highly varied and technically challenging. Although you will be based in the UK, it is likely that much of your work will relate to studies carried out in Switzerland, the USA and elsewhere. Occasional overseas travel should therefore be expected.
Key skills & knowledge:
You will need a good degree in a maths-related subject plus an MSc and/or relevant PhD in statistics, or equivalent work experience. You will need to be able to work accurately under pressure, and to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. A good working knowledge of SAS and/or R, and a familiarity with biological processes are both desirable but not essential.
In order to fulfil all aspects of the role it is likely that a candidate would need to have considerable relevant experience, but we also invite applications from suitably qualified but less experienced individuals who have the capability and desire to grow into the role. Whatever your level of experience, in this role you will be well supported in your professional development through a combination of self-learning, on the job training, and internal and external courses.
