Andy, you don't say where the saw marks are, whether they completely
transect the bone, or whether what you have is the bone with saw marks or
a chunk of bone that's been sawed off. The only instances I know of at
Roman Vindolanda where bone was sawed is deer antler, and generally that's
for the purpose of making gaming markers, i.e. crosscuts to make "chips"
or "tophats". I'm sure you'll get a better answer from somebody else if
you would please clarify description of items or else post photo at
