Dear Mailbase
I would like to revisit this topic that was posted a couple of years back.
Specifically, I would like to hear from any labs that have electronic add-on requesting functionality. I would be grateful if you could spare a few moments to answer the following questions:
1. Which electronic ordering/requesting/reporting system are you using and does this enable electronic add-on requesting by clinicians?
2. Who is the supplier of your LIMS system?
3. Is your electronic add-on process restricted to non-urgent requests only?
4. Are urgent add-on's still telephoned to the lab?
5. Do you let clinicians add-on additional tests before the primary tests are completed and reported, or do you only allow them to add-on tests once the primary results are reported?
6. Is the electronic add-on test process linked to information on sample type, add-on time limit?
7. How are the add-on requests received by the laboratory system and how often is this checked throughout the day and out-of-hours?
8. Is there a system of communication linked to the add-on request (e.g. to notify requester if insufficient sample)?
9. Have you had any clinical problems, incidents or issues arising from electronic add-on requesting?
10. Anything else you'd like to add?
Please reply directly to me, and I will collate and publish responses.
Many thanks
Phil
