> Short description:
The Department of Art + Design in the College of Arts, Media and Design invites applications and nominations for an appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. Tenure on entry is anticipated.
Our Department values masterful and accomplished designers and researchers with interests in creating powerful experiences for people through the design of products and services, and advancing the field of design research and scholarship. We follow integrative and holistic approaches to design, grounded in cultural practices and behavioral arts, and embrace creative research questions of how technologically mediated action is lived, felt and valued by people with manifold intentions in everyday situations, and have perspectives on human experience as a process of making sense of the world, participating in culture, and engaging with community.
These faculty will contribute to and collaborate with faculty of our MFA programs in Information Design + Visualization and Experience Design; our planned PhD in Design Research; and our MFA Interdisciplinary Arts program. These degrees are built upon well-established undergraduate theory and practice programs with an emphasis on bringing innovative and engaging works of art, media and design into the public sphere. We also offer BFA degrees in Design, Media Art, and Game Design.
Candidates must have a PhD, MDes/MFA, or equivalent terminal degree by the start date in visual, graphic, architecture, interior or information design or animation, interactive media, digital arts, or related fields; have expertise in one or more areas of design practice; be prepared to engage with existing university and college strategic areas such as (but not limited to): systems engineering, health sciences, cyber security, robotics; and be eager to collaborate with faculty across other disciplines of our College and University. Candidates will be considered from a variety of design fields, including but not limited to graphic design, interaction design, service design, product design, exhibition design, and interactive media arts. Candidates must have a well-developed research agenda that will inform and advance current trends in the field through creative production, experimentation, collaboration, exhibition and publication. Evidence of a high level of skill and accomplishment across media, provocative meaning making, and a sophisticated aesthetic sensibility is expected.
Successful candidates will have or show potential for having a national or international record of excellence in creative practice, innovative research, substantive scholarship and effective teaching. All candidates should have a strong interest in collaborative work as well as experience in, or a commitment to, working with diverse student populations in a culturally diverse work and educational environment.
