I think it's a really effective re-brand.
Picking up on Mike's point there's some great use of simple language through the navigation e.g.
- See and Do
- Objects and Stories
- See and Do for Schools ...

Yes, looks great!
+1 for insights into rationales behind the new site and how it was built etc (particularly from a technical point of view for any developers like myself)

Subject: New SciM website
Hi all
Saw via Rob Cawston [@cawstone] that the Science Museum launched a new website look and feel yesterday. I like it a lot, and it does some interesting things IMO which seem to be more and more popular - namely
- Less stuff. Whether actually less, or just much simpler sitemap - or better articulation of the sitemap - it all seems really lean. This is refreshing IMO, and is a thing we struggle with with clients all the time - just too much of everything, and too many / complicated menus..
- Much less reliance on sidebars. More single page, local anchor scrolling with the nav at the top somewhere or floating
- An interesting approach with the way they’ve done the main menu (I like it, but it took me a minute..)
- Still interested that the collections stuff sits on a subdomain - https://collection.sciencemuseum.org.uk/ - my out-loud guess is that this is because of technical constraints and systems but it’d be interesting to hear what and why..
I know John Stack lurks on here - John, if you have a minute and any time at all to write about the rationales behind the new site that’d be amazing.. I mean, not like immediately, you’re probably busy… :-)
cheers
Mike
