As you said there are manh great books on the topic. On top of my head,here
are some that I use in my graduate classes (they are hard core social
science methods though)
-Approaches to Social Research (Singleton and Straits)
-The Basics of Social Research (Babbie)
And if you are looking for something more design related:
-Architectural Reserach Methods (Groat and Wang)
