Hello, an amateur lurker here...
Has anyone researched the genetic relationships between European and British "native pony" breeds?
I'm interested specifically in Fell Pony, Dales Pony, Highland, Dole, Gudbrandsdal, Merens, Pottok,
Asturcon, possibly Friesian horse. There is romantic and anecdotal speculation among horse people, but
I'd like to see phylogenetic trees.
I already have:
Jansen et al, 2002. "Mitochondrial DNA Analysis of the Domestic Horse" (the labelling on the diagram in
that is mindboggling);
Levine 2002 "MtDNA and Horse Domestication" in "Equids in Time and Space";
Winton et al, 2013, "Genetic Diversity and phylogenetic analysis of Native Mountain Ponies of Britain
and Ireland" (but this only looks at Carneddau ponies, Welsh and Connemaras).
I'm no longer part of any academic institution so papers via ATHENS etc are not available to me.
Any help you can give would be very welcome.
