In conjunction with EICS’2017 conference: http://eics.acm.org/2017/
Monday, 26th June, 2017 in Lisbon, Portugal
DESCRIPTION:
This workshop focuses on engineering the next generation of healthcare
technologies for broadening the participation of patients and carers in
their healthcare. We will gather stakeholders from distinct disciplines and
backgrounds to discuss and reflect on experiences to date with healthcare
technologies that support participation. We will also engage in ideation
and design sessions with real case studies from the Portuguese primary care
reform.
The background for this workshop is that healthcare technologies are
increasingly influencing the participation of patients and carers. As these
technologies mediate medical interactions, examinations, and even self-care
activities, they can enable or hinder patients and carers from
participating in their healthcare. More than ever, it is timely to reflect
on what healthcare technologies achieved so far, and to draft an agenda for
broadening the participation of patients and carers.

CONTRIBUTING:
Prospective participants are invited to submit a 4-6 pages position paper
using the SIGCHI Extended Abstract Format, or a <500 words motivation
letter (for non-academics). Both submissions should be sent to:
[log in to unmask] by April 1st 2017.
We expect position papers on healthcare technologies, including: recent
experiments, prototypes, field studies, theoretical accounts, and critical
reflections that discuss issues of design, development, and use. Possible
topics include, but are not limited to:
- Models, components, architectures, and infrastructures for enabling
participation;
- Participatory processes for designing and developing healthcare
technologies;
- Success (and failure) stories of technology-mediated participation in
healthcare;
- Challenges of participation in technology-mediated environments;
- Appropriation of healthcare technologies by patients and carers;
- Healthcare technologies created by patients and carers;
IMPORTANT DATES:
April 1st 2017: Submission deadline
April 15th 2017: Notification of acceptance
