i hope we do not get into religion on this list. especially in view of the u.s. president instituting religious hatred (on behalf of christians), which can only multiply the persecution of religious minorities of whatever kind.
a design problem that we could discuss is that we have an authoritative designer of executive actions that cause immeasurable harm to diverse people living together.
in various publications i have argued for an ethical imperative for designers:
"do not design anything that can harm the community of its present and future
stakeholders, intentionally or not."
especially the always looming unintended consequences of design call for careful design research of the benefits and constraints of a design, which communities benefit from its use or are disabled. it calls for a serious reflection on designers' intentions.

Teena:
I recently scanned the World Watch List of persecuted Christians:
https://www.opendoorsusa.org/christian-persecution/world-watch-list/
Because I am an academic, a researcher, and a practicing Christian, I looked into its methodology. If you have time and are inclined I would be interested in your feedback of their measures, particularly their concepts of "squeeze" and "smash":
https://www.opendoorsusa.org/christian-persecution/world-watch-list/about-wwl-ranking/
We are both aware that Open Doors is not an academic institution but a Christian ministry with an obvious point of view. Despite that, I'm curious about what you, as an academic with specialization in oppressed or persecuted peoples, think.
I am doing this offline because I am not yet sure that Christian persecution will be of interest to the list while wanting to being responsive and sensitive to the personal experiences of persecution you shared in your recent post. My agenda is that I feel your post and the recent discourse on the list has lacked perspective. To be blunt, that offense over a question about computer color choice while real, is at a different level than decapitation. If we had a greater perspective we might be able to find greater harmony in our community by becoming exercised in proportion to the level of threat. The Open Door World Watch List seems to try to consider and do some justice to ALL forms of persecution, squeeze and smash, while keeping some perspective.
One additional point of context should you choose to respond. Regardless of the methods of the World Watch List, I have engaged in Christian work around the world and personally know many Christians who suffer across the full spectrum defined in the list. My experience is not shared here to thwart your response at all. I simply think it fair to let you know that I have a specific context with which I critically read the World Watch List and that my interest in how others view its methods is not only academic.
Best...
