Public libraries across the UK lend 220 million books and provide over 30 million hours of internet access. Libraries are an integral part of communities, supporting skills development, encouraging a love of reading, combating loneliness and isolation, improving health and well being and improving local economies by helping entrepreneurs and people finding work.
Jacob Sam-La Rose’s poetry collection ‘Breaking Silence‘ was shortlisted for a Forward Poetry prize and the Aldeburgh Fenton award, and is a set text for the OCR English Language and Literature A Level. Jacob has been commissioned to produce work for the National Gallery, the BBC, Nitro (Black Music Theatre Co-Operative) and International PEN.
Jacob co-founded Malika’s Poetry Kitchen, developed the Roundhouse Poetry programme and Summer Slam series before moving on to establish Barbican Young Poets and Burn After Reading. He is recognised as a leading figure within the UK’s youth poetry slam movement, having served as Artistic Director for the London Teenage Poetry SLAM, Apples & Snakes’ Word Cup, Shake the Dust and Shot from the Lip.
Jacob Sam-La Rose joins actor and comedian Stephen Fry and classicist Professor Mary Beard in the poster campaign. All the posters are available to download for free and display in libraries across schools, communities, Universities and hospitals.
