Dear Sue,
Many thanks for this valuable source which also improves exposure to all the hard work invested in PhD theses. Good ethos is always helpful :)
Best wishes, Laszlo

Subject: [ZOOARCH] British LIbrary UK doctoral theses EThos database
for anyone else who wants to search for a UK PhD thesis, this might help-
http://www.bl.uk/reshelp/findhelprestype/theses/ethos/
The British Library holds records of many UK doctoral theses, and can sometimes provide links to free downloads. Not all universities participate to the same degree or go back as far as others, but it is a very useful starting point.
Andy Garrard's PhD is not directly available, although I think it can be requested. NB the date is 1981- thesis submitted in November 1980, but PhD awarded later after the viva exam, which puts it into 1981 as its official date.
hope EThos helps several people
Sue
