Dear Jerry,
Your article is very useful for me. I appreciate the distinctions that you
make.
Might I suggest you follow the ³problem² aspects into the Latin world of
the ³object²? The Greek ³problem² is a thing thrown forward whereas the
Latin ³object² is a thing thrown down (as in ³I object² in a court case).
The Greek thing is out there in the world - the Latin thing is a thing
before consciousness (as in subject/object - the object is in relation to
my subjectivity).
Sure, science treats objects as hard things out there in the world
consisting of factual relationships. As such, they are NOT problems.
Design is about things before consciousness.
If we follow this metaphor we find that the primary colonisation is one of
a way of being/seeing in the world. It is irreversible and has no respect
for culture or history.
We haven¹t come across another way of seeing/being to grant us yet another
perspective. The world is a metaphor - a thing before the mind. As far as
I can see, the world is flat.
Cheers
keith
