Dear zooarchers,
I'm working with fish remains from the Maya world and currently I'm
researching fish preservation. XVI century documents indicate that
mayas were salting fishes in order to preserve and trade them.
However, the only fishes that are being salted nowadays are rays and
it only occurs in a particular region of the Yucatan península.
I was wondering if you know any reference, historical or
ethonographical, of salted fishes from the caribean or nearby areas.
Thank you in advance,
