Dear Geo-Tectonics Community,
We have changed the nomination timeframe for the Ramsay Medal and the Dave Johnston Undergraduate Mapping Prize, which are awarded annually by the Tectonic Studies Group. Nominations for both awards are now open.
The prestigious Ramsay Medal is awarded to the Early Career Researcher who has been judged to have produced the best publication arising directly from their PhD project. The paper must be in the field of tectonics and structural geology and been published in the 12-month period before the closing date. It must also have been written primarily by the nominee, based on their own research. The paper would normally also have been presented as a talk by a post-graduate student at a UK TSG sponsored meeting.
This year the closing date for nominations will be September 30th 2016, which is earlier than previous years (this is to allow for a longer judging period – following feedback on the judging process). The nomination period is now open, and we will send an email to the TSG community before the nomination period closes. You can find out more about the nomination process on the TSG website: http://tectonicstudiesgroup.org/ramsay-medal/
The Dave Johnston Undergraduate Mapping Prize is awarded for the best undergraduate mapping project arising from fieldwork dissertations completed in the past two years. Nominations are open all year round. A nomination form is available on the TSG website, and must be submitted to the TSG Secretary before November 30th 2016.
We will send a reminder to the TSG community before the nomination period closes. Full information about the awards and the nomination process is available on the TSG website: http://tectonicstudiesgroup.org/dave-johnston-mapping-prize/
I also want to take this opportunity to congratulate the fantastic 2016 prizewinners, who you can read about on the TSG news pages: http://tectonicstudiesgroup.org/news/
Judges! We are extremely grateful to our previous judges for the Ramsay Medal and the Dave Johnston Prize. If you are a member of the TSG community and would like to participate in judging for the Ramsay Medal this year, please get in touch with me, the TSG Secretary ([log in to unmask]). It is preferable (but definitely not essential) that you will also attend the TSG Annual Conference in January, where the prize is announced. If you would like to participate in judging for the Dave Johnston Mapping Prize this year, then please also get in touch with me. To judge the Dave Johnston Mapping Prize, you must attend the TSG Annual Conference in January, where the mapping materials (field slips, maps, notebooks) will be available for judging.
