Please could I ask what you do in the following circumstance:
One evening, a handwritten request from Dr Illegible from Place Unknown with blank clinical details arrives in pathology reception. The patient and sample identification meets our standards - so the sample is analysed. The creatinine and potassium are both increased and the potassium is well above the telephoning limit. No evidence of delayed separation. The results are reported electronically to the ICE database in the hope that they get looked at soon.
What measures (if any) do you take to track down the requesting doctor by telephone? If the creatinine is normal, does it make any difference?
I intend to post a summary of replies.
Kind regards
Andrew
