This may be of interest not only to possible graduate student candidates but
to other institutions interested in developing a healthcare domain track
within a design program. OCAD University was the first in Canada (and US) to
launch and sustain an advanced design thinking MDes program with foresight
and futures methodologies in the Strategic Foresight and Innovation (SFI)
program. We're in our 7th year this year, and continue with the original
founding faculty, plus newer members such as futurist Stuart Candy.
This year we're launching the first dedicated MDes Design for Health in
Canada, with September seeing our first cohort. After developing the program
for 3-4 years we have in place a program director (Kate Sellen) and
curriculum. We are accepting applicants to Design for Health (and SFI) until
the end of March. See the call below and feel free to pass along.
OCAD University graduate program in Design for Health
OCAD University's new graduate program in Design for Health is launching in
September 2016 and accepting applications until April 1, 2016 with several
competitive scholarships available. The Master of Design in Health degree
program is offered both as a full-time, two-year (five semesters) program
and a part-time three year (eight semesters) program.
Design for Health is structured with a combination of online and integrated
seminar and studio formats. It is intended for designers with training and
experience in various disciplines including architecture, interior design,
engineering, interaction design, urban design and planning, communications
design, industrial design, fashion, fibre and wearable technology design, as
well as individuals with clinical and public health training and experience
who would like to develop skills in service and systems design.
This program integrates design and design thinking with the complex and
intertwining fields of health and healthcare through studio and embedded
projects. The MDes in Design for Health will address the expertise gap in
the application of design processes as well as the need for design
leadership to implement and support emerging health innovation.
