Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture has an open position for Postdoctoral Researcher in Costume Design Research Methodologies. The Costume in Focus (CiF) research group, based at the Department of Film, TV & Scenography, seeks applicants with a research topic in Costume Design and an interest in working on new methodological approaches for researching costume.
The researcher will work for the Costume Methodologies FiDiPro research project funded by the Academy of Finland.

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER, Costume Design Research Methodologies
The Costume in Focus (CiF) research group based at the Department of Film, TV & Scenography is looking for a post-doctoral researcher with a research topic in Costume Design and an interest in working on new methodological approaches for researching costume. The researcher will work for the Costume Methodologies FiDiPro research project (see: http://costumeinfocus.com/?page_id=108) funded by the Academy of Finland. The main objective of the Costume Methodologies project is to establish a firm methodological strategy to investigate the creation, production and function of costume in all areas of the performing arts – theatre, opera, dance and other stage- or site-specific live performance – as well as in film, television and other camera- and media-based creative projects involving costume. The case studies involved in the Costume Methodologies research project investigate different perspectives of costume, using a variety of interrelated, cross-disciplinary methods and materials, such as archival records, visual materials, documents and literary sources, interviews and oral history, digital technologies, and new creative work developed through artistic research processes. The post-doctoral researcher’s research topic should provide a new methodological approach to researching costume in performance through a specific case study proposed by the researcher, investigating a certain field of costume production.
The main duties and responsibilities
• Working on post-doctoral research in the field, with emphasis on developing new methodological approaches for the research of costume
• Reporting, documenting and participating in writing journal articles and conference papers, as well as funding applications
• Participating in administration work and development work in the project and at the department
• Teaching
Key selection criteria
• A doctoral degree in an applicable field, e.g. Costume design, Performance design/Theatre design /Scenography, or Fashion/Textile design with proven experience in costume
• Research interest in areas covered by the Costume Methodologies project or a compatible existing research plan
• Research competence and demonstrated research experience, including scientific writing and grant writing
• The applicants are expected to demonstrate research and/or artistic experience in the field of costume and performance, prior experience in artistic research is also appreciated
• Collaboration skills and some project management skills
• The task requires fluent skills in the use of English language: the working language will be English.
We welcome a candidate who has successfully gained a doctoral degree in a relevant research field or is currently completing one. If the applicant is not granted a doctoral degree by December 15th 2015, the employment will not be continued.
