Dear Zooarchers,
I am very sorry to hear about these sad news. I had the opportunity to
meet Juliet back in the 90's while I was doing my PhD in Cambridge. She
always had great interest in the work of the new generations of
archaeozoologists so she did not hesitate to invite me over to her place
to discuss on transhumant sheep from Spain. Reading her publications was
most than inspiring to me. As I am writing I can see from my desk the
copy of The Walking Larder she sent to me. Inside the book I keep the
letter she wrote to recomend further research articles. Certainly I feel
privileged to have known her.

It was a priviledge that she talked for a plenary session about domestication issues in front of hard-core mammalogists and she standed for her thoughts at the time. Afterwards she went to the field along with her husband and few other colleges to Lacandon Tropical forest with my friend and college Rodrigo Medellín, and certainly enjoyed the visit. Rodrigo was surprised that every night, after the field work, Juliet and her group went back to camp and dress in clean white for dinner, a surprise for the Mexican people. Certainly her work will remain for a long time.
