Hi (and apologies for cross-posting)
A colleague in Australia's interested in public health information being provided in the UK and its transition to digital (see below). I know there's a lot going on both at national and local levels but I'm sure there's plenty I've missed. If you could help Julie please could you contact her directly.
Many thanks

Subject: RE: Consumer health libraries in the UK
Hi there,
My name is Julie Canals and I work at the Women's Health Information Centre, a small resource centre based at the Royal Women's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. It includes a library, which is focused entirely on women's health and consists of 968 catalogued items (approximately 1/3 DVDs and 2/3 books) and 250 brochures including fact sheets and booklets. The service is staffed by midwives/women's health nurses (2.5 EFT), administration staff (1.0 EFT) and myself, a library tedhnician (0.4 EFT) and is available to patients and the general public. Here is a link to our service if you are interested: https://www.thewomens.org.au/health-professionals/support-services-professionals/womens-health-information-centre/
The hospital is eager to move more into the digital world and is about to commence a review of the service. I am interested to hear from services which provide consumer health information, in particular hospital based services.
- Has your service been reviewed in the last five years?
- Is your management thinking about moving solely to digital information? If so, how have you worked to overcome the digital divide?
- Are there many hospital based consumer health libraries in the UK?
- Have you been successful at convincing your management of the need for both a physical and digital presence?
I would love to hear from you about your experience, so that I can put together a package to present to the consultants undertaking the review. The matter is relatively urgent so I would be grateful if you could reply within the next week if possible. I will ensure that your personal comments remain confidential but may refer consultants to your website.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Thanking you in anticipation,
Kind regards
Julie Canals
