Hello
I thought that I would respond to this thread as both a female researcher/lecturer/student and longtime lurker on the list. I must admit that I too have rarely posted over the past decade or so I have been a member, but I read it nearly every day, and have also had a number of interesting interactions off-list.
Over the years, both female and male colleagues and students have made comments echoing those expressed below about their experiences of the list. Having said that, I may have become immune to this aspect or perhaps it has become less of an issue in relation to the very real benefits this list brings. My views are constantly challenged and I regularly discover new resources generously offered. I honestly think there is a lot of respect demonstrated on the list.
Whilst I absolutely understand and agree with the comments on this thread, I worry. Having participated in other lists where accepted etiquette appears to require general approbation of all contributions, I have come to particularly value the sometimes robust, but considered, debate found here.
Best wishes,
Helen McGilp
